Bombora Taps Altrad for mWave’s Cell Module Structure

Bombora Wave Power has appointed Cape Engineering Services (Altrad) as a contractor for the fabrication of the Cell Module Structure for the mWave Wave Energy Converter Demonstration.

The cell module structure is a key structural element of the cell module with the primary function of retaining an airtight pressure and providing structural integrity to the other parts of the cell module.

According to tender documents, five cell module structures will be required, each cell module structure is a steel fabrication with approximate dimensions of 15 meters length, 7 meters width and 5 meters height and a mass of 30 tons.

According to Bombora, Altrad will deliver four cell modules.

Bombora is mid-way through the project to design, build, deploy, test and validate a 1.5MW mWave power converter off the coast of Pembrokeshire. Mainstay Marine Solutions has won a contract for the fabrication and assembly of the main structure.

The mWave will be fully submerged on the sea floor and is non-disruptive to ocean users and marine life while generating electricity from the wave motion.
