EU funded project FORESEA has been shortlisted for the ‘Innovation Award’ at the EU Sustainable Energy Citizens’ Awards 2019.
The EU Sustainable Energy Awards recognize outstanding innovation in energy efficiency and renewables. Twelve finalists have been chosen from a shortlist of the year’s most successful projects for clean, secure and efficient energy.
A winner will be chosen via a public vote, and will be announced at an Awards Ceremony during EU Sustainable Energy Week in Brussels on June 18, 2019.
FORESEA (Funding Ocean Renewable Energy through Strategic European Action) is an €11m Interreg North-West Europe project, helping bring marine energy technologies to market by providing free access to leading test centres supporting testing in real sea conditions.
FORESEA has enabled the testing and demonstration of ocean energy devices, sub systems and components which is crucial in helping the sector prove the technology and reach full commercial roll-out.
To date FORESEA has allocated €30 million of investment to 19 offshore technologies within wave, tidal, floating offshore wind, and under water data servers.
Nicolas Wallet, programme manager, EMEC said: “On behalf of the FORESEA project consortium, we are delighted that FORESEA has been shortlisted for this prestigious award and is being recognized within Europe as a major success story for the marine energy industry.
“This is acknowledgement that the marine renewable energy sector is having an impact on the future of Europe’s energy system. We are very excited about the important role that innovative marine renewables will play in providing emission-free energy to Europe.”
