PacIOOS Adds Operations Coordinator

PacIOOS has welcomed Chip Young to its team as the operations coordinator.

In his new position Chip be responsible for coordinating and managing day-to-day PacIOOS operations, providing field and technical support, collaborating with stakeholders to identify and address needs, and developing ocean observing capacity throughout the Pacific Islands region.

With a Master of Science in Oceanography from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa and 14 years of experience as oceanographer with NOAA’s Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center, Ecosystem Sciences Division, Chip brings a wealth of experience, expertise and skills to PacIOOS operations.

He has conducted local and international field research throughout the Pacific Islands, and served with a variety of interdisciplinary research teams investigating and monitoring coral reef ecosystem health and responses to global climate change, as well as coastal anthropogenic stressors.

Chip is interested in exploring various in-situ oceanographic sensing technologies for PacIOOS and is looking forward to connecting with regional partners and stakeholders, the company noted.
