The Ostend research tower is a test platform being developed by German developer NEMOS and Belgian POM West-Vlaanderen to ensure the infrastructure supports the development needs for offshore wind, tidal and wave energy technologies.

The paint work also includes outfitting and finishing tasks that are already underway at the tower manufacturer EEW and the secondary steel provider NAVIKON.

Following completion of the finishing works, the components will be transported by road to the port of Ostend for the final commissioning and pre-installation preparation.

NEMOS is very happy with the project progress and the cooperation with EEW and NAVIKON. The whole NEMOS team is now very much looking forward to the installation works in Belgium, expected in April/May 2019,” NEMOS said.

The maritime platform, that will be launched 500 meters outside the port of Ostend, will serve as a ‘living lab’ to perform tests to accelerate the innovation and development of blue energy, and the broader blue economy.

The Ostend research tower will provide the required infrastructure for the next generation NEMOS Wave Energy Converter prototype that is currently being developed.
