NEMOS grows wave team

German company NEMOS has expanded its engineering team with two new appointments that will work to contribute to the development of the company’s wave energy technology.

The beginning of November saw NEMOS welcome two new engineers to its team – Oliver Epsom, and Clara Hüsken.

Epsom is experienced in offshore engineering, marine and naval operations and the design of wave and wind energy devices, NEMOS said.

Joining the team after finishing her master studies in ocean engineering, Hüsken has already demonstrated her skills working for NEMOS as a student trainee, according to the company.

“We are excited to have the two colleagues contributing to the NEMOS development and are very much looking forward to a successful collaboration,“ NEMOS said.

NEMOS wave energy device uses the incoming energy of a wave to absorb it using its elongated floating body and then transmit the absorbed energy to a generator shaft by a belt system.

The movement of the waves causes the device to transmit mechanical energy to a generator which is positioned at any suitable offshore structure.

The system is capable of protecting itself during stormy conditions by automatically submerging and sheltering itself from the waves, while the energy is continued to be harnessed in the submerged mode, according to the company.

To remind, NEMOS has recently concluded the first scale model tests of its new generation wave energy converter under realistic environmental conditions.

NEMOS tested the 1:3 scale device at Nissum Bredning nearshore test site in Denmark in August, after completing initial tank tests at DST Duisburg research institute.

The trials contributed to the finalization of concept for the device that will be deployed in larger scale in the Belgian coastal city of Ostend, on the North Sea.
