Minesto seeks tidal control systems engineer

Swedish tidal energy developer Minesto is looking to hire a control systems engineer who would join its concept group based in Gothenburg.

The work of Minesto’s control systems engineer consists of designing and programming sophisticated control systems followed with simulation, testing and debug of control systems in-house.

Most of the work will be performed in Gothenburg, but the role includes work activities at other Minesto’s sites located in Wales, Northern Ireland and Taiwan – as the commissioning of Deep Green devices also forms part of job’s responsibilities.

The deadline to apply for the position has been set for March 28, 2018.

Minesto was founded in 2007 as a spin-off from aircraft manufacturer Saab. Today, with more than 55 employees and operations in Sweden, Wales, Northern Ireland and Taiwan, Minesto is one the companies driving the creation of an emerging tidal energy industry.

According to the company, it is on track to deliver its first commercial project – the 500kW Deep Green tidal power plant, planned for installation in April 2018 in Holyhead Deep, off Anglesey in North Wales.

Minesto’s Deep Green technology consists of a wing that resembles a kite, and includes watertight compartments for buoyancy system, batteries and pressure sensors.

The electricity is produced when the water current creates a hydrodynamic lift force on the wing which pushes the kite forward.

The kite is steered in an 8-shaped trajectory by a rudder, and as the kite moves, the water flows through the turbine with magnified power, producing the electricity in the gearless generator.
