Fresh investment keeps Tocardo above water

Dutch tidal energy developer Tocardo has secured investment from a fund owned by Noord-Holland province after the company filed for bankruptcy last month.

The funding rescue package for the company was provided by the Participatiefonds Duurzame Economie Noord-Holland (PDENH) – a fund which invests in sustainable companies on behalf of the province of Noord-Holland, and a number of private investors, Tocardo informed.


Scotrenewables generates over 1.5GWh of tidal power (Video)

Scotrenewables Tidal Power has informed its SR2000 tidal turbine reached over 1.5GWh of cumulative generation since last deployment. The SR2000 hit the newest generation milestone on its 200th consecutive day of deployment at the European Marine Energy Centre’s (EMEC) Fall of Warness grid-connected tidal test site.

The floating tidal turbine, hosting two 1MW turbines with a 16-meter rotor diameter for each one, was first deployed at EMEC in October 2016.


Cape Sharp Tidal targets summer deployment

Cape Sharp Tidal is preparing to deploy the second of the two 2MW tidal turbines this summer at the Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy (FORCE) test site in the Bay of Fundy.

The company plans to use a heavy lift vessel later this spring to place the second, or dry turbine, which hasn’t yet been deployed, on the purpose-built Scotia Tide Barge in preparation for deployment in mid-2018.


Minesto bags close to $9 million in rights issue

Swedish developer Minesto has raised $8.95 million (SEK 72.5 million) in a share rights issue that will be used to support the company’s upcoming tidal energy activities.

Martin Edlund, CEO of Minesto, said the funds will be used to carry out demonstration of the Deep Green technology in utility scale in Wales, and site and market development activities in the EU and Taiwan.


Eco Wave Power clocks 15,000 grid-connected hours

Israeli wave energy developer Eco Wave Power has reached 15,000 grid connection hours in its pilot wave power plant in Gibraltar – claiming it to be a new world record.

The 100kW Gibraltar wave energy plant was launched in May 2016 at the ceremony which marked the start of the plant’s operational phase.
