Bombora Wave Power is recruiting for wave energy professionals to provide electrical and mechanical support for the delivery of the first mWave device.
Both positions will be based in Bombora’s recently opened Pembroke Dock office that is currently forming the team whose focus is on a €20 million project to design, fabricate and test the first 1.5MW mWave prototype.
In this regard, the Australian-based wave energy developer is seeking to expand its Welsh team with the appointment of a Senior Electrical & Control Engineer, and Senior Mechanical Engineer.
As Senior Electrical & Control Engineer for Bombora, the successful candidate will be responsible for the design and delivery of the electrical and control architecture of the first mWave device.
Acting as the lead engineer for the design of mechanical elements for the mWave machine, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will specifically be responsible for developing the flexible membrane that pumps air through the system.
The deadline to apply for either position has been set for February 5, 2018.
Bombora’s mWave device features a series of air-inflated rubber membranes mounted to a concrete structure on the sea floor.
As waves pass over the mWave, the air inside the membranes is squeezed into a duct and through a turbine. The turbine spins a generator to produce electricity. The air is then recycled to re-inflate the membranes to prepare them for the next wave.
To remind, Bombora secured a multi-million dollar investment from Enzen to support the construction of its first commercial-sized mWave wave energy device.
