MaRINET2 opens second call for offshore renewables testing

The EU-funded MaRINET2 project has launched its second call for applications for ocean energy developers.

The call, opened on January 15, 2018, is meant for offshore energy technology developers, including wind, wave and tidal energy at system and component level.

Successful applicants will receive free access to a world-leading network of 57 testing and research infrastructures across Europe.

The call is open for applications until February 28, 2018, via dedicated MaRINET2 website.

MaRINET2 is a €10.5 million Horizon 2020 funded project which supports offshore renewable energy R&D activities, whose first call provided €1.3 million in funding to 34 technology development teams.

Jimmy Murphy, MaRINET2 Project Coordinator from the University College Cork, said: “MaRINET2 is an important driver of offshore renewables R&D in Europe. Europe’s offshore renewable testing facilities are second to none globally, and MaRINET2 puts these facilities at the disposal of technology developers to help test and validate their concepts”.

“The first MaRINET2 call was very effective in providing support to technology developers around Europe, many of whom are in the middle of their testing programs right now. We will look forward to expanding this with in the second call.”

MaRINET2 project was officially launched in Ireland early in February 2017.

Short for the Marine Renewables Infrastructure Network, MaRINET2 is a network of 39 partners in 13 European Countries, involving research centers and organizations who work together to progress offshore renewable energy.
