Wello nets 10MW wave energy order for Bali

Gapura Energi Utama (GEU), an Indonesian infrastructure construction company, has placed an order to Wello to supply it with a 10MW wave energy park equipped with Penguin devices. The park will be located next to Nusa Penida Island in Bali and it will be the largest wave energy park globally, according to the Finnish wave energy developer Wello.


GE job cuts in UK linked to Swansea lagoon decision lag

More than a thousand jobs set to be lost over GE Power business restructuring in the UK have been linked to the continued delay of the UK government to make a decision on the Swansea Bay tidal lagoon scheme. The company said the job losses will primarily affect GE’s workers in Stafford and Rugby in the English Midlands – the sites where GE planned to manufacture and assemble key components for the power generation system of the proposed Swansea Bay tidal lagoon.


Spanish wave firm bags Horizon 2020 funding

Bilbao-based developer Arrecife Energy Systems has received €50,000 of cash boost through EU’s Horizon 2020 funding program to further advance its wave energy technology. Arrecife Energy Systems is developing a device that simulates the natural behavior of coral reefs and their efficiency in absorbing wave energy.


Finnish wave sets eyes on €1M crowdfunding prize

Finland-based developer Wello has launched an equity crowdfunding campaign to support its growing wave energy ambitions.Namely, Wello is looking to raise a minimum of €1 million through Invesdor crowdfunding platform to support its two-fold growth strategy. The campaign, which started on December 21, 2017, has already attracted over €550,000 of investments or 55% of the targeted amount.


Catapult guides energy innovators through progress hurdles

The Energy Systems Catapult (ESC) has launched a new Innovator Toolkit for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to guide them through the energy sector transformation. The toolkit, developed with the Energy Innovation Centre, includes guidelines aimed at helping innovative start-ups and SMEs in accessing funding, and test and demonstration facilities across the UK.
