SINN Power targets GreenTec gifts

German wave energy developer SINN Power has been included among the top 10 nominees in two categories of the GreenTec Awards 2018.

SINN Power has been nominated in the ‘Start-up’ and ‘Sustainable Development’ categories for the awards that honor innovative products and projects that lead the way towards a more environmentally friendly future.

In the category for sustainable developments, SINN Power was nominated for its project on Cape Verde where an organic shrimp farm will be powered by 100% renewable energy from ocean waves.

The project is expected to reduce the massive diesel imports to the islands and create around 60 new jobs.

For the start-up entry, SINN Power’s wave energy concept stands out as highly scalable, the company said. SINN Power’s wave energy converter produces power as the up and down motion of the waves lift the floating bodies of the individual modules, which in turn lift a rod that runs through a generator unit, resulting in electricity generation.

Philipp Sinn, SINN Power’s CEO, said: “We are pioneers in wave energy and that is not always easy. But we have come so far in only 3 years. Winning the GreenTec Awards 2018 would give a huge push to the team and motivate us further for the development of a new alternative renewable energy source.”

Following the open public voting which runs until January 8, the winners of the GreenTec Awards will be revealed on May 13, 2018, in Berlin.
