WES funds further innovation landscaping studies

Wave Energy Scotland (WES) is looking to invest in two short projects that are expected to help shape the organization’s future research and development programs.

The Scottish wave body WES said £160,000 is up for award for two contracts.

The remaining two contracts will involve ‘horizon scanning’ to understand opportunities in very large-scale wave energy converters and alternative generation techniques.

In each project the appointed teams will identify and characterize the opportunities, assess practical implications, feasibilities and differences to the state of the art; as well as quantify the potential benefits in terms of cost, according to WES.

The teams will likely be looking to other sectors and to the specific characteristics of wave energy generation to find the best opportunities for innovation and cost reduction.

The deadline to apply to the call has been set for January 9, 2018, it is stated on WES’ website.

Wave Energy Scotland was set up in 2014 as a subsidiary of Highlands and Islands Enterprise and is fully funded by the Scottish government.

The organization takes a progressive and collaborative approach to tackling the issues which have proved challenging in the wave energy sector and is driving the development of wave energy technology in Scotland and beyond.
