Waves4Power’s WaveEL wave energy device has reached five months of exporting electricity to the Norwegian power grid from the Runde test site.

Swedish wave energy developer Waves4Power said everything is going according to plan even though the wave climate varied greatly during the five months of interconnection.

At this point, Waves4Power is in an intense period of testing and evaluating all components and subsystems of the WaveEL 3.0 wave power buoy at Runde, the company said.

The results from these evaluations will provide Waves4Power with information for the ongoing development of the next generation of wave power buoys, the WaveEL 4.0, which will be put into serial production in Norway.

The production site for the next-gen device is planned at the former shipyard at Fiskåholmen on the Norwegian west coast, with the first roll-outs expected in 2018.

During this period, Waves4Power hired a new Chief Technology Officer, Magnus Rahm, who started working for Waves4Power in October 2017, brining years of experience from development work within the wave power field to the company.

WaveEL device produces electricity using hydraulic pump which is connected to the accumulator that feeds a hydraulic motor with a generator, which in turn converts the hydraulic pressure to electric power.

To remind, Waves4Power said earlier this week it was interested in developing a full-scale wave energy park off the Isles of Scilly through Smart Islands project that aims to help the isles meet their energy demand through renewable energy generation.
