Minesto hires marine operators

Swedish tidal energy developer Minesto has awarded a framework agreement to Holyhead Towing, and Leask Marine covering various marine operational needs as part of Deep Green tidal project.

The agreement involves the supply of vessels and marine equipment for Minesto’s DG500 tidal energy project in Holyhead Deep in Wales, the company said.

The framework agreement will also be used to support Minesto in the supply of vessels and equipment for marine operation trials such as development and testing of the of the Launch and Recovery System (LARS), as well as other general operational support.

Minesto plans to deploy a 500kW tidal power plant in Holyhead Deep, off Northern Wales, in 2018.

The site could be potentially scaled-up to form a tidal array of up to 80MW.

To remind, Minesto recently published updated cost of energy analysis which showed the company’s LCOE will fall to €100/MWh after 100MW cumulative installed capacity in tidal streams, and below €50/MWh for arrays of Minesto devices in continuous ocean currents.
