Video: Atlantis charts AR1500 path from design to deployment

Atlantis Resources has released a video which follows a journey of the Atlantis AR1500 tidal turbine from design to deployment at the MeyGent tidal energy array.

The Edinburgh-based tidal energy developer Atlantis Resources redeployed the AR1500 over the last weekend, joining three tidal turbines from Andritz Hydro Hammerfest (AHH) reinstalled earlier at the project site in Pentland Firth, off Scotland.

The turbine represents the final addition to the MeyGen as part of the project’s Phase 1A whose generating capacity amounts to 6MW.

The AR1500 is a Lockheed Martin designed, 1.5MW horizontal axis turbine complete with active pitch and yaw capability.

The nacelle weighs approximately 150 tonnes in air and has a design life of 25 years.

The rotor diameter is 18 meters and all key operational systems have triple redundancy built in to maximize reliability offshore, according to Atlantis.
