Canadian developer Seawood Designs is offering to share more than ten years of developmental intellectual property (IP) with others developing point absorber wave energy converters (WECs).

Seawood Designs’ IP relates to its development of SurfPower device – a constant pressure seawater pumping point absorber with a rectangular float.

The company’s IP includes baseline designs for most of the system components, software validation based on wave tank model data, component cost estimates, and an energy management concept, among others.

“The principal of Seawood Designs has decided, for personal reasons, to withdraw from the development of SurfPower and share his ideas and experience with other point absorber developers,” Seawood Designs said in a statement.

The interested parties are encouraged to contact Seawood Designs, explaining in general terms their WECs approach so that Seawood Designs can evaluate if it has input that might be beneficial to the developer.
