Intertek’s Paul Evans joins expert marine group

Intertek informed that Dr. Paul Evans has joined the British Standards Institution (BSI) as a Committee Member to represent the UK on the International Electrotechnical Commission’s (IEC) marine energy committee.

BSI is the UK national standards body responsible for overseeing the national standards making process and for nominating representatives from the UK on a number of European and international committees and working groups.

Paul Evans, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), examined the suitability of energetic tidal straits for tidal stream development using Ramsey Sound, Pembrokeshire, Wales as a case study.

Given his expertise in tidal resource characterization, Dr. Evans was nominated by a fellow BSI Committee member to join this expert group to assist with the development of the IEC/TC 114/AHG 7 “Assessment of information received on IEC TS 62600-201 – Marine energy – Wave, tidal and other water current converters – Part 201: Tidal energy resource assessment and characterization” technical specification.

As a Committee Member, Dr. Evans will be responsible for reviewing documents submitted to the committee, circulating new proposals and drafts for comment, as well as attending meetings with fellow Committee Members.

Chris Mooij, Project Director, Intertek Energy & Water said: “Our Total Quality Assurance strategy is to stay on the leading edge of our established and emerging markets. Being invited onto this Committee helps to deliver this vision and provides a platform for our experts to influence thinking and to shape the industry standards of the future.”

Dr. Claire Cohen, AHG 7 Convenor, said: “AHG7 welcomes Dr. Paul Evans from Intertek onboard and is looking forward to his involvement in the tidal resource assessment and characterization technical specification revision. ”
