The wave power plant of the Swedish wave energy developer Waves4Power has been officially opened by His Majesty King Harald V of Norway.

The opening ceremony was held yesterday, September 21, 2017, in Fosnavåg on the Norwegian west coast.

More than 2,000 people were present during the inauguration of the wave plant, according to Waves4Power.

The occasion also featured a visit to the WaveEL wave energy buoy, which has been connected and feeding power to the Norwegian energy grid since June 2, 2017.

The device represents Waves4Power’s full-scale demonstration installation and is also the first step towards commercial serial production, Waves4Power said.

WaveEL device produces electricity using hydraulic pump which is connected to the accumulator that feeds a hydraulic motor with a generator, which in turn converts the hydraulic pressure to electric power.

The plans for the ‘next generation’ wave energy buoy were also presented during the inauguration event.
