Royal presence to mark Waves4Power’s wave plant inauguration

His Majesty, King Harald V of Norway, will attend the inauguration of Waves4Power’s wave power system which has been supplying electricity to the Norwegian power grid for almost three months.

The event, set to take place on September 21, 2017 in Fosnavåg in Norway, will also celebrate the start of a new local manufacturing industry related to wave energy developments, with a gathering at Fiskåholmen’s shipyard in Norway.

As reported earlier, Waves4Power’s wave energy system started generating power to the grid on June 2, 2017 after it had been installed at Runde test site, off the west coast of Norway, a month earlier.

The wave energy system is comprised of the WaveEL buoy, a connection hub, and custom designed proprietary marine cables.

It produces electricity using hydraulic pump which is connected to the accumulator that feeds a hydraulic motor with a generator, which in turn converts the hydraulic pressure to electric power.

The occasion will celebrate the three months of continuous Waves4Power’s system operation and fossil-free energy generation, and will also serve to announce the winner of the drawing contest amongst all the region’s 5th graders who were tasked to draw their version of the next generation wave power system.

Waves4Power is a Swedish company based in Gothenburg, which develops and sells fossil-free energy systems based on wave power.
