DesignPro seeks CFD modeling crew

Ireland-based company DesignPro is tendering for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling services as part of its Horizon 2020 project to commercialize small-scale river devices.

The CFD work will involve validating the performance of the turbines, and providing the necessary support to upscale the device from a prototype to 25kW and 60kW commercial designs, DesignPro said.

Interested companies must be able to provide services in numerical modeling, CFD and strength calculations to both further develop the existing models using data collected from experimental testing, evaluate that data and develop more advanced models that would assist in the design, fabrication, testing and marketing activities, according to DesignPro.

“There is a considerable amount of data available including 2D and 3D CFD models (worldwide patents pending), from previous testing of a prototype in the Limerick Docks, a custom test facility in Limerick, Ireland. Upscaling the device will require extensive use of fluid dynamics modeling and technical analysis to support design, fabrication and testing,” DesignPro said.

The specific services required to complete the development program as well as the minimum qualifications necessary to deliver these services is provided in the request for tender on the etenders website, for which the deadline has been set on August 30, 2017.

As reported earlier, DesignPro secured €2.5 million through EU’s Horizon 2020 program to commercialize small-scale river turbines of up to 100kW utilizing GKinetic’s technology.
