Nova to study Bardsey Sound potential for tidal generation

Nova Innovation has received an agreement for lease (AfL) from The Crown Estate to explore the potential of Bardsey Sound for tidal power generation. It enables Nova and its regional partner organisation, YnNi Llyn, to start fully exploring the project’s potential through site surveys and studies to inform the technical feasibility. A full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will also be carried out as part of the consenting process.

Naval Energies recovers second Paimpol-Bréhat turbine

Naval Energies has retrieved the second tidal turbine that was deployed off Brittany in France as part of Paimpol-Bréhat tidal array demonstration project. It was transported by Triskell barge from its demonstration site to Cherbourg for maintenance purposes. Following the maintenance works, both turbines will be redeployed to the Paimpol-Bréhat site.

First stone for Cherbourg tidal assembly plant laid

Naval Energies has laid the first stone for the Cherbourg tidal turbines assembly plant. The 5500 m2 tidal turbines assembly plant will initially be able to produce 25 tidal turbines annually. It will employ about 40 people, and is expected be operational in the first quarter of 2018. The production capacity of the plant is expected to increase by up to 50 turbines per year following the planned expansion works.

US lays final plans for Oregon wave energy test site

US Energy Department’s Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO) and Oregon State University have concluded detailed negotiations for the development and operation of the national wave energy test site. The site, PMEC-SETS, will accommodate up to 20 wave energy converters in four test berths. The berths will be able to supply up to 20MW of electricity to the grid.

WES launches wave knowledge library

Wave Energy Scotland (WES) has launched a new online library that offers over 100 documents stemming from its wave energy research and development program. The library includes free-to-access information on wave energy research, knowledge capture and international collaborations. It will be updated with additional reports and details of the projects coming under the WES umbrella.
