Aqua Power Technologies unveils wave energy device design

Aqua Power Technologies has presented the final design iteration of its wave energy converter.

The image was posted on social media by Aqua Power Technologies’ founder Samuel Etherington, who also announced the testing of two full-scale devices set to take place later this year.

The device is a semi-submersible multi axis wave energy converter designed to absorb forces from the peaks and troughs of the waves in any given direction, according to Aqua Power Technologies.

The Cumbria-based wave energy developer has been recently selected to receive support under the second call of the EU-backed FORESEA initiative.

FORESEA support covers part of the costs of demonstrating ocean energy technologies at one of Europe’s world-leading ocean energy test facilities.

Aquamarine Power Technologies will test its technology at the European Marine Energy Center (EMEC) in Orkney.
