EMEC looks for micro-grid solutions

The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) has launched a tender for a micro-grid solution to facilitate the testing of marine energy converters.

EMEC is looking for design and delivery of one simulated grid system that will be used for the testing of small scale wave and tidal energy converters at EMEC’s test sites in Orkney, Scotland.

The value of the contract is set at £75,000, with the estimated award date expected on April 7, 2017.

The deadline for submitting tenders to the call is March 31, 2017.

Established in 2003, EMEC provides developers of both wave and tidal energy converters with purpose-built, accredited open-sea testing facilities.

It offers two full-scale grid connected test sites for wave and tidal energy devices testing, including Billia Croo wave energy test site, and Fall of Warness tidal energy test site.

EMEC also operates two scale test sites where smaller scale devices, or those at an earlier stage in their development, can gain real sea experience in less challenging conditions than those experienced at the grid-connected wave and tidal test sites.

The scale wave test site is located at Scapa Flow, off St Mary’s Bay, while the scale tidal test site is found at Shapinsay Sound, off Head of Holland.
