Leask Marine gearing up for Tocardo job

Orkney-based marine renewables services provider Leask Marine will be engaged in the installation of Tocardo’s system at EMEC throughout this month.

Leask Marine will provide its C-Odyssey and Uskmoor vessels to conduct the marine works which include survey and cable operations, device mooring installation, and the installation and the commissioning of Tocardo’s tidal energy device.

The operations are due to begin on March 4, with the completion date set for March 31, 2017.

The device will be installed at EMEC’s grid-connected tidal test site at the Fall of Warness in Orkney.

However, it will be temporarily moored at Isbister Bay until the test site is ready for installation.

The device to be installed at EMEC is part of the InToTidal project that received €2 million through European Commission’s funding program Horizon 2020 in June 2016.

To remind, Tocardo’s tidal system arrived to Orkney on February 13, 2017, marking the start of Tocardo’s 20-year commercial demonstration project at EMEC.
