Ireland opens consultations on EU clean energy package

Irish government has launched public consultations on the proposals set out in the EU’s ‘Clean Energy for All’ package.

EU’s clean energy package, released in November 2016, consists of eight legislative proposals and almost one hundred associated documents, with key areas covering renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity market redesign, and energy union governance.

As part of Ireland’s national analysis of the package, the country’s Department of Communications, Climate Action & Environment (DCCAE) is now seeking views from stakeholders, interested parties, and the public on these proposals.

The aim of the consultation is to identify the best ways to meet the proposals, including those in the renewable energy package, under which Ireland must meet the 2030 EU-level binding target of at least 27% of renewable energy.

The closing date for submissions is set for May 1, 2017.
