FORCE considers future tidal data management

Offshore Energy Research Association (OERA) is looking to hire a service provider to define and describe data management system for use by the Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy (FORCE).

The service provider will also design the user interface for use by FORCE, it is stated in the request for proposals issued by OERA.

The scope of work includes determining how FORCE currently uses its data and how it intends to use the data in the future.

Resulting from that, FORCE will identify its preferred data management system and user interface.

OERA said it will require a preliminary overview of the broader challenges to data management in Nova Scotia’s tidal industry. The aim of this task is to describe possible future options to manage this data over the longer term.

Although not included in the request, the data management system design will subsequently be used to seek funding, and for commissioning a service provider to implement the system at FORCE.

A secondary, but equally critical objective, is to integrate external, non-FORCE past and future data-sets into a broader conception of data management for the Nova Scotia tidal energy industry, according to OERA.

FORCE manages the tidal energy demonstration facility located in Minas Passage, Nova Scotia. The center operates the common infrastructure and leases subsea berths to tidal energy developers who test their in-stream turbines in the high flow environment.

The total available funding for this project is $15,000, and the proposals are due by March 13, 2017.

OERA aims to enable the sustainable development of Nova Scotia energy resources through collaborative offshore energy and environmental research and development, including examination of renewable energy resources and their interaction with the marine environment.
