Welsh marine energy research project needs wave buoy

Swansea University is looking to procure a wave buoy that would be used in the Seacams 2 project aimed at accelerating the development of Welsh marine energy industry.

The wave buoy will be used in resource characterization and research studies for the Seacams 2 project that was backed with £12 million from the Welsh government last year, according to Sell2Wales.

Through Seacams, companies looking to harness the sea’s power and create a sustainable marine energy industry in Wales will be able to access vital research support to progress with their multi-million pound developments.

The three-year project, worth £17 million, is managed by Bangor University along with partners at Swansea University.

The second Seacams project will aim to extend the amount, quality and access to the type of data that development companies need before engaging on the complexities of siting various types of marine renewable energy projects

The project is set to develop a network of coastal observatories to collect this high-quality data and ensure its availability to potential developers.

The work will focus on information gathering around the two marine renewable energy demonstration zones that lie off the north-west coast of Anglesey and off the Pembrokeshire coasts.

The deadline for the submission of tenders is set for March 7, 2017, it is stated on the Welsh government’s procurement portal.
