Atmocean schedules wave system testing in Texas

US-based wave energy developer Atmocean will conduct two final rounds of testing of its wave energy system starting later this February in Texas.

The wave tank trials of Atmocean’s system will begin from February 20th, 2017, at the A&M University’s Haynes Laboratory in Texas.

This fourth round of testing follows the fundraising campaign concluded late in December 2016, under which Atmocean targeted $25,000, but managed to collect a little over $19,000.

At that time, Atmocean said the fraction of the funds collected during the campaign would be used for the optimization of its wave energy system through the Texas testing.

After the completion of the trials, Atmocean plans to deploy its wave energy system off Peru later this year for a third round of real-sea testing, having concluded the first two in 2015.

Atmocean’s system consists of pumps and buoys, and is capable of producing both electricity and fresh water out of sea water through desalination process.
