DCNS brings marine renewable energies under one roof

French naval defense and energy specialist DCNS is consolidating interests in marine energy through the creation of a new subsidiary with the aim of bringing tidal, ocean thermal energy (OTEC) and floating offshore wind to full maturity. After DCNS secures investments from new external investors for the establishment of the subsidiary, it will maintain a majority stake in the newly created entity.

Advisian to trial tidal turbine reef technology

Advisian, an independent advisory arm of the Australian engineering company WorleyParsons, will undertake a feasibility study for the development of its tidal energy system known as Tidal Turbine Reef (TTR). The trials will start this month, with the completion of the project set for 2017.

Hendry submits tidal lagoons review

The head of an independent review of tidal lagoons in the UK, Charles Hendry, has submitted its final report to the UK government which commissioned it back in February 2016 to assess the feasibility and practicality of tidal lagoon energy. After reviewing the results, the UK government is expected to make a decision regarding subsidies for the proposed Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon.

Penguin ready for Wave Hub waters

Wello, has unveiled plans to deploy its Penguin wave energy device at Wave Hub site at the end of December, adding that the marine operations will be carried out by Green Marine. The deployment is part of the EU-funded Clean Energy from Ocean Waves (CEFOW) project that aims to demonstrate the viability of floating wave energy converters on a larger scale, and longer period of time.

Enel Green Power grabs H24 wave device

Enel Green Power (EGP) has bought the H24 wave energy device from the Italian tidal and wave energy players 40South Energy, and Elements Works, as he company lays the groundwork for the development of a new technological line with ‘huge potential’.
