Tidal Lagoon Power (TLP) has hired Turnpenny Horsfield Associates (THA) to conduct a scoping study and trials related to fish tracking as part of the Cardiff tidal lagoon development.

Southampton-based consultancy, THA, will be tasked with identifying the most appropriate method(s) for fish tagging and tracking in the Severn Estuary in order to inform the modelling and assessment of impacts on fish for Tidal Lagoon Cardiff, according to the Welsh government’s procurement portal Sell2Wales.

The proposed lagoon, between Cardiff and Newport, is expected to have the capacity between 1.8 and 2.8GW, powering approximately 1.5 million households in the UK.

Plans for Tidal Lagoon Cardiff include up to 90 turbines set within a 22 km breakwater that will enclose an area of around 70 km2 with an average tidal range of 9.21 meters.
