Cape Sharp Tidal has started the deployment operations for the first 2MW tidal turbine in the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia.

The deployment operation has begun this morning, November 7, at the Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy (FORCE) site near Parrsboro.

Several vessels are involved in the deployment operation, including the specially designed Scotia Tide barge that is carrying the OpenHydro turbine.

The Scotia Tide barge is purpose-built for deployment and recovery operations, and is equipped with three heavy-lift winches that enable it to lower and raise turbines from the sea floor.

Other vessels mobilized for the deployment operation include tugs Atlantic Bear, Atlantic Hemlock, Atlantic Kingfisher, and Irving Beaver barge.

This is the second day of the week long window of opportunity for Cape Sharp Tidal to install the turbine at FORCE.
