Marine Energy Event to raise tides on OEEC 2016

The Marine Energy Event will bring you up to speed with the latest developments in the international marine energy projects, while presenting the evolving trends and export market opportunities of this emerging sector.

The event, organized in cooperation with the Dutch Energy from Water Association (EWA), will also cover various topics related to environmental monitoring, testing infrastructure, and offshore safety and construction.

It will seek to address current issues the European, and the international marine energy industry is facing through multiple event sessions.

The event will begin with a networking lunch, which will be followed by a session dedicated to research and development and testing being done worldwide in an effort to advance the sector.

The session will feature international group of speakers including Matthijs Soede, Research Programme Officer at the European Commission, who will provide insights on the EU policy and the ocean energy sector.

The real-sea testing of these new ocean energy harvesting technologies, representing a crucial step in their development process, will be covered by speakers from the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), located in Orkney, Scotland.

Yasuyuki Ikegami, an associate professor at the Institute of Ocean Energy at Saga University in Japan, will also participate in the session, providing the attendees with updates on the ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) pilot project in Japan.

Following the refreshment break, a session on the large marine energy projects will offer attendees the unique chance to hear more about the development path of the recently launched, world’s largest tidal array project, the MeyGen project, from Stephen Ward, Director of Power Generation at Atlantis Resources.

Equally interesting for the marine energy enthusiasts will be a presentation on Dutch marine energy developments and export opportunities that will be delivered by Peter Scheijgrond, from MET-support, and Member of the Board of EWA, who will also be moderating the entire Marine Energy Event.

During the same session, Hans van Breugel, Chief Executive Officer of Tocardo International, will hold a presentation on Tocardo’s experiences in tidal energy titled ‘Tocardo turbines in the water’.

The event will close with a panel that will discuss future opportunities for the marine energy sector, which will be moderated by Britta Schaffmeister from Dutch Marine Energy Centre, featuring Rianne Post, Senior Policy Advisor at Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Sander Steenbrink, General Manager Research and Development Department at Boskalis, as well as Matthijs Soede, and Stephen Ward as speakers.

After the closing panel, the networking reception suitable for identifying potential collaboration opportunities and socializing with like-minded delegates from the sector, has also been set up.

The registration for the Marine Energy Event, being held as part of Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference 2016, is still open. The gold sponsor for the Marine Energy Event is Dutch Marine Energy Centre (DMEC).

It will take place at Amsterdam RAI, the Netherlands, on October 26, 2016.
