French tidal firm bags environmental prize

Sabella has won an award in the environmental category for the region of West France in a competition that acknowledges the efforts of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in France.

Sabella has received recognition for its tidal energy project off Ushant island, which included the installation and testing of its D10 tidal turbine.

As ‘Environmental SME’ 2016 of the West France, Sabella will compete in the national finals, with other finalists from seven regions running for the prize organized by French media group RMC.

The national award ceremony will be held on October 18, 2016 in Paris.

To remind, Sabella retrieved the D10 tidal turbine in July after it was submerged for more than one year in the Fromveur Strait.

After the maintenance and optimization of its 17m high turbine with a rotor diameter of 10m, Sabella plans to reinstall the 1MW turbine later this fall for a new testing campaign.
