BEIS upholds CfD extension

UK’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has stated it would extend the delivery years for Contracts for Difference (CfD) to enable allocation rounds for renewable energy projects post 2020.

The confirmation comes after the consultations process to the 2014 CfD regulations amendment to extend the delivery years for renewable energy projects from 2020 to 2026, which closed on August 8, 2016.

“All consultation responses were in favour of the Government amending the Contracts for Difference (Allocation) Regulations (2014) in order to extend delivery years specified in those regulations to March 31, 2026. This will enable the running of future allocation rounds. It is Government’s intention to make this amendment,” BEIS said.

As announced in the 2016 Budget, the UK government intends to auction up to £730 million of support under the CfD framework for offshore wind and other less established renewable generation technologies for projects commissioning in the period 2021-2026.
