James Fisher lays Wave Hub cables

James Fisher Marine Services has completed the subsea cable installation works at the Wave Hub test site off Cornwall, UK.

James Fisher finalized the works on August 12, and Aker Wayfarer and MTS Xplorer vessels which were used for the operation are clear of the site.

All equipment has been installed and the electrical system is live, Wave Hub informed.

The offshore works included the installation of four 33 kV cable extensions laid from the Wave Hub Safety Zone out to each developer berth.

The works also included the installation of associated cable connectors, bend restrictors and abrasion protection, as well as cable support and stabilisation measures.

The worth of the contract for the execution of works, awarded in May this year to James Fisher, was £2.8 million.

Wave Hub provides shared offshore infrastructure for the demonstration and proving of offshore renewable energy technologies.
