Video: Lir-NOTF makes waves in new flume tank

Ireland’s National Ocean Test Facility, Lir-NOTF, has commissioned the new wave and current flume test tank.

Lir-NOTF is a custom designed test facility which operates within the MaREI Centre at the Beaufort Building in Cork, Ireland.

It houses the infrastructure for small to medium scale laboratory testing of ocean and maritime systems.

Yesterday, August 11, a multi-purpose tank with the capability of running separate and combined unidirectional wave and current tests was successfully commissioned at the facility, MaREI informed on social media.

The wave and current flume has 8 hinged force feedback paddles with adjustable height positioning and three thrusters for generating current speeds greater than 1 m/s.

With the size of 28 by 3 meters, and depth of 1 meter, the wave and current flume tank is also equipped with a towing carriage that can operate at speeds up to 1.5 m/s.
