Tidetec to showcase its tidal solution

Norway-based hydropower developer, Tidetec, will display its prototype tidal energy device this week ahead of the announced real sea testing.

Tidetec will launch its first working prototype tidal energy device whose full-size application is intended for barrage and tidal lagoon power plants in Svelvik, Norway, on August 13.

The device will then be submerged for six weeks of testing in tidal stream environment.

The company has previously informed that the focus of this prototype is put on turning application and the method of tuning the device, not the turbine itself, since the mechanism has been designed to accommodate various turbine types.

Project partners that have contributed in the development of the prototype include PowerTech, Harness, Technical University of Munich, Mareval, Metrotidal, Onsagers, Advokatfirmaet, Innovation Norway, 1-Tech, Eurostar and Norwegian Research Council.
