PLOCAN joins hands with SPEGC to boost marine sector

Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) has signed a collaboration agreement with the Society of Economic Promotion of Gran Canaria (SPEGC) to boost the blue economy and marine sector in Gran Canaria island.

The two parties have agreed to collaborate on developing a common strategy to attract businesses and projects in the marine and maritime sector, promote technology transfer and the development of joint projects between local companies and PLOCAN.

Also, the agreement defines lines of action to develop joint training programs to improve the professional skills in areas related to PLOCAN, to jointly develop entrepreneurship programs and business acceleration projects in the field of marine and maritime technologies, and participate jointly in projects financed by the State or the European Union.

The agreement goes in line with the strategic framework developed by the Gran Canaria Cabildo, the governing body of the island, to support initiatives for the development of local blue economy and research projects, and adds to the already signed agreements with the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Bank of Algae and ITC.

PLOCAN (Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands) is a research facility co-funded by the Economy and Competitiveness Ministry of the Spanish government and the Canary Islands government, with the aim of supporting the research and development in the fields of ocean science and technology.
