Minesto awards seabed foundation contract

Minesto has hired a Welsh-based engineering consultancy Ocean Resource to provide seabed foundation for its Deep Green tidal project.

Ocean Resource is to provide concept, design and fabrication of a seabed foundation for the Deep Green 500 tidal energy kite project at Holyhead Deep, off the coast of Anglesey, North Wales, planned for deployment in 2017, according to the Welsh government’s procurement portal Sell2Wales.

The foundation is intended to form the anchor point to connect tether and power/control umbilical cables for the DG500 tidal energy kite.

It will also act as a secure mounting to deal with the variable forces at the site.

As reported earlier, Minesto recently posted a tender for the provision of a tether rope to be used for DG500 project which closes on August 5, 2016.

Minesto’s Deep Green technology consists of a wing that resembles the kite which exploits the hydrodynamic lift force created by the water current to push the kite forward and produce electricity. The kite is tethered trough a single mooring to the sea floor.
