GE names new Power Conversion Chief

GE has appointed Azeez Mohammed as President and CEO of GE Energy Connections’ Power Conversion business.

Azeez Mohammed moved to Power Conversion from his role as President and CEO, of GE’s Power Services business for Middle East and Africa.

Responsible for continuing to build the Power Conversion business, which drives the electric transformation of the world’s energy infrastructure across multiple industries, Mohammed is expected to strengthen the capacity of Power Conversion’s service network especially in emerging markets.

“Azeez brings both global and operational expertise to our business and will be a great add to the Energy Connections leadership team. He will be driving commercial and operational excellence for the Power Conversion business and its customers,” said Russell Stokes, President and CEO of GE Energy Connections and Senior Vice President of GE.

Mohammed will be based at Power Conversion’s headquarters in Paris, with the appointment effective from July 11, 2016.

As reported earlier, GE Power Conversion constructed the subsea converter for Paimpol-Bréhat tidal array project, developed by DCNS and EDF.

The 1MW tidal energy array, consisting of two OpenHydro turbines, will be connected to the subsea converter over the summer.

GE’s electrical conversion system will allow the electricity produced from the turbines to be transported as continuous electrical current to an onshore substation that will feed the electricity to the French grid.
