Tocardo, OpenHydro score multi-million funding from Horizon 2020

European Commission’s Horizon 2020 programme has granted multi-million funding for tidal energy projects run separately by Tocardo, OpenHydro, and Magallanes, with their partners through the fourth round of the Fast Track to Innovation (FTI) scheme run under Horizon 2020. Total funding awarded for the projects amounts to €6.9 million.

DP Energy names Chief Investment Officer

DP Energy, an Ireland-based renewable energy company, has appointed Andrew Smith as its Chief Investment Officer. Smith, currently Head of the Renewable Energy Investment Fund (REIF) at the Scottish Investment Bank, will join DP Energy later this month. His role will include work on the funding round for DP Energy’s FORCE tidal projects in Nova Scotia.

PLAT-O gets wet ahead of EMEC deployment

Sustainable Marine Energy (SME) is conducting submergence tests of its PLAT-O tidal energy platform in Kirkwall, Orkney, ahead of the announced installation at one of EMEC’s test berths. Leask Marine is scheduled to deploy PLAT-O this summer at EMEC’s Fall of Warness grid-connected tidal testing site.

Wave energy a viable option for Pacific Island countries, study finds

The Pacific Community (SPC), a scientific and technical organisation in the Pacific region, has released a study which states that wave energy could be a cost-effective energy resource for Pacific Island countries and territories.

Waves4Power teams up with Stryvo

Sweden-based wave energy company Waves4Power has partnered up with Norwegian engineering firm Stryvo to further advance its wave energy system. The two companies will cooperate on the development of design and manufacturing processes for Waves4Power’s proprietary WaveEL system.
