Ocean energy to supply 10% of EU energy mix by 2050?

‘Can ocean energy sources provide 10% of the EU’s energy mix by 2050?’ is the name of a demo & debate session set to take place during European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) being held from June 14 to 16, 2016.

The session will be chaired by Ocean Energy Europe’s CEO, Rémi Gruet, and will feature case study presentations of innovative ocean energy projects demonstrating the technological capabilities of ocean energy and illustrating the importance of EU and member state support to bring projects to fruition.

Regis Baudet, Technical Project Manager at EDF, will present Paimpol-Bréhat tidal array project, and Kieran O’Brien, Executive Director of European Business Development at Carnegie Wave Energy, will present his company’s accomplishments in the wave energy sector.

The second part of the session will feature a debate between key stakeholders focusing on how ocean energy sources can provide 10% of the EU’s energy mix by 2050, and how this coincides with the EU’s long term energy strategy.

The speakers include Fiona Buckley, Chair of TP Ocean and Vice-President of Business Development at Engie, Konstantin Staschus, Secretary-General at ENTSO-E, and Piotr Tulej, Head of Unit Renewable Energy Sources at European Commission.

The session will take place on June 16 at the Residence Palace, Brussels, Belgium.
