China backs renewable energy grid integration

China has directed power transmission companies in the country to provide grid connection for all renewable energy power sources, Reuters reports.

The companies should integrate all renewable power sources that satisfy their technical standards, with the suppliers generating power from wind, solar, biomass, geothermal and wave energy benefiting the most, Reuters cited the National Energy Administration (NEA) of China.

China has two state-owned electric utilities, State Grid Corporation of China, and China Southern Power Grid Company Ltd.

In the recently published report ‘Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment 2016’, China was listed as one of the countries that received the largest share of world investments in the renewable energy sector in 2015 – $102.9 billion, or 36% of the world total.
