ORE Catapult, EMEC join forces for marine tech development

ORE Catapult and EMEC have launched Technology Assessment Process (TAP) to de-risk marine energy technology development. TAP has been designed to support wave and tidal energy technology developers, enabling them to benchmark their technologies and follow a more structured technology development journey which will result in a less expensive, faster and more certain development pathway.

Scotrenewables’ FloTEC bags €10M from Horizon 2020

The European Commission’s research and innovation programme, Horizon 2020, has awarded a grant of €10 million to the Floating Tidal Energy Commercialisation (FloTEC) project which will advance the commercialisation of Scotrenewables’ floating tidal energy technology with the development of a mark 2 turbine.

Schottel-Hydro-sells-16-turbines-to-SME-TNSchottel Hydro sells 16 turbines to Sustainable Marine Energy

Schottel Hydro will deliver 16 Schottel Instream Turbines (SIT) with a capacity of 62 kW each to the Isle of Wight-based enigneering company Sustainable Marine Energy (SME). The turbines will be delivered over the course of two years. The scope of supply also includes the power electrics for the turbines and the interface management between turbines and platform.

Tocardo to test T2 tidal array at EMEC

Tocardo Tidal Turbines, a Dutch tidal turbines manufacturer, has singed up to demonstrate a 20 year pre-commercial array at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney. The company plans to install eight T2 turbines across two Tocardo systems at EMEC’s grid-connected tidal test site at the Fall of Warness, off Eday, Orkney, beginning in 2017.

SEAI funds 15 marine energy projects

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) has announced a total grant award of €4.3 million to 15 new marine energy projects underway in 2016 under its Prototype Development Fund. The announcement was made as SEAI in conjunction with Enterprise Ireland hosts an ‘Ireland open for business’ exhibition at the 6th ICOE in Edinburgh.
