Scotrenewables anchors at EMEC

Scotrenewables Tidal Power has deployed its modular anchoring system at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) ahead of the installation of its SR2000 2 MW floating tidal turbine. The anchor deployment formed part of a novel tidal anchors project for floating technologies, which was carried out in partnership with McLaughlin & Harvey, SeaRoc and Scotmarine. The SR2000 floating tidal turbine is expected to be connected onsite in the coming months.

WES-makes-two-final-PTO-awards-TNWES makes two final PTO awards

Wave Energy Scotland (WES) has made two final contract awards from its first competitive call for power take-off systems. The first contract in the amount of £474,493 has been awarded to Trident Energy who joins the stage 2 programme, and the second of £90,000 will be made to Exceedence who will participate in stage 2.

Ireland gets Marine Renewable Energy Atlas

Ireland has launched an online mapping service for the marine renewable energy community. The Marine Energy Atlas is a planning tool for resource assessment, identification of sites for development or understanding environmental and oceanographic interactions.

OpenHydro-secures-USD-47-million-TNOpenHydro secures €47 million

Ireland-based designer and manufacturer of tidal turbines, OpenHydro, has raised €47 million ($53 million) which will be used to fund the equipment production and projects development in Europe and Canada. A DCNS-owned company secured funds from its shareholders through Board-approved fundraising that started in September 2015.

WaveEL launch stalls

After the successful installation of the WaveEL buoy at Runde site off Norway, the launch of the remaining system has been temporarily halted on Friday, February 12, 2016, due to a problem with the connection hub, which was damaged during a corrective action with a misplaced mooring line.
