Tidal Energy Today has compiled the top news from tidal and wave energy industry from January 11 – 17, 2016.
Funding in the amount of €1,955,742 was granted to MaREI and the University of Limerick to develop marine renewable energy remote operation vehicle (MRE-ROV) for challenging wave, tidal, and wind conditions. MARINET and University College Cork will receive financial support in the amount of €2,230,860 to develop Open Ocean Emulator (OOE) for grid integrated next generation marine renewable energy systems.
Paimpol-Bréhat tidal project, jointly developed by DCNS and EDF, could see the first OpenHydro’s tidal turbine installed next week. DCNS, parent company of OpenHydro, planned to install the first of the two 500 kW OpenHydro’s tidal turbines in December 2015, but due to unsuitable weather conditions the deployment operation has been postponed.
Fraunhofer UK, part of Europe’s largest application-oriented research organisation, has joined forces with Synaptec and the European Marine Energy Centre to develop an innovative solution to address cable and electrical infrastructure integrity within the marine renewable energy industry.
The initial stages of a project looking at biofouling solutions for marine renewables has been completed by the International Centre of Island Technology (ICIT), in collaboration with the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) and Heriot-Watt’s Energy Academy.
Bombora Wave Power has received Au$181,000 (~$127,000) of funding support from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to complete a detailed ‘Levelised Cost of Energy’ (LCOE) study for its wave energy converter.
