Guyana seeks tidal energy proposals

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure of Guyana is calling for proposals from power producers to develop an electricity generation system from renewable sources which would power a town called Bartica.

According to Stabroek News, Guyana’s daily, the ministry is looking for proposals for the generation system which would use one or more renewable resources, including: tidal, solar, wind, hydropower, biomass, and waste-to-energy.

Bartica, a town located on the left bank of the Essequibo River, has a population of 15,000, with energy consumption needs amounting to 11,760 MW/h annually.

The ministry added the facility should produce minimum of 2,140 MW/h of energy annually, and be up to 1.5 MW in capacity, Stabroek News reports.
