An agreement has been signed between the Canadian government and Irish-based DP Energy to develop a 4.5 MW tidal energy project at the Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy (FORCE). DP Energy plans to install three 1.5 MW in-stream tidal energy turbines at the FORCE test site in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia.
Minesto, together with eight partners, has received €5.1 million to develop the Deep Green technology within a project named PowerKite, financed through EU Horizon 2020. The aim of the project is to further advance Deep Green technology, all in order to reduce costs for generating electricity from tides and ocean currents.
Eco Wave Power has received an approval for EU funding for a wave energy power plant in Gibraltar. Under the Power Purchase Agreement between Eco Wave Power, Gibelec and the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Climate Change in Gibraltar, EWP will construct a 5 MW wave energy power station in two phases.
Stonehenge Metals has partnered up with Cal Poly to deploy a staged ocean wave energy and energy storage micro-grid project at Cal Poly Research Pier, off California. The project is expected to be a staged deployment program, planned to start during 2016, with the temporary deployment of the Protean wave energy converter in the ocean.
Finnish wave energy developer AW-Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding with ENAL, a Mexican renewable energy developer, to develop, design and build 10 MW WaveRoller wave farm off Mexico. The wave farm is expected to bring significant employment opportunities creating a new marine energy industry in Mexico to feed both local and international markets.
