Isle of Man’s tidal energy project to be discussed

Positive Action Group, an Isle of Man-based political group, is organizing a public meeting that will discuss the potential of tidal energy in the waters off the Isle of Man.

The Isle of Man government has recently announced the granting of a survey license enabling local company Manx Tidal Energy to carry out preliminary work to determine the practicality and commercial viability of offshore electricity production.

Manx Tidal Energy will investigate the possibility of a tidal array on an area of the seabed off the Point of Ayre.

The meeting will feature a presentation from Max Tidal Energy’s Managing Director Steve Malley called ‘Our Generation: Offshore power for the Isle of Man?’.

In his presentation, Malley will describe the project, explaining how such a development would operate, generate and transmit power.

He will also talk about the benefits to the Island and the obstacles to be overcome: in particular a environmental impact assessment, planning and UK subsidies.

The public meeting will be held at Manx Legion Club, Douglas, Isle of Man, on November 30, 2015, at 7.30 pm.
