QED Naval concludes Subhub installation trials

QED Naval has completed the installation and retrieval trials of its Subhub tidal foundations platform.

Recent testing of the Subhub operational model in high tidal flow conditions confirmed its ballast system capabilities and installation and retrieval methodology, according to QED Naval.

QED Naval was able to install and secure the model on the seabed overnight before being recovered to the surface.

Frontal profiles of turbine blades were added to the cross beam to simulate three turbines being installed on the Subhub, and QED Naval states that the blades acting against the current presented no issues.

The Subhub tidal foundations platform is designed to commission, test, transport, install, and secure a mini array of wave and tidal turbines to the seabed.

QED Naval is an Edinburgh-based naval architecture consultancy that is focused on the development of the marine renewable energy industry and the vessel requirements for deployment of offshore wind, wave and tidal devices.
